CG Parking Lot under Water? Time to Rethink

Photos from WCWC Mid Island, February 2005

1. Old logging rd. which is the proposed route to the proposed parking lot. The yellow dot on the tree at the end is a habitat sign. The road should have been de-activated after logging as it acts as a dam that prevents the interflow of the floodplain from moving downhill towards Cameron Lake (the ocean), therefore the back-up of water probably contributes to the blowdown of the Weyerhaeuser selective logging experiment adjacent to the river and the "parking lot addition to the park".

2. This is the same logging road that under the forest practices code should have been de-activated.

3. Same logging road to proposed parking lot.

4. On the logging road facing towards area for proposed parking lot.

5. The is the east side of the highway (left side of the road when travelling towards Port Alberni). It clearly shows the undercutting of the new expansion (highway widening) last year. This gravel then eroded onto the floodplain of a Class A park.

6. This is the east side of the highway where the turnoff to the proposed parking lot was planned.

7. This is the west side of the highway where the turnoff to the proposed parking lot was planned.
