Press Release
Information Picket at the Legislative Buildings in Victoria
Carmanah Forestry Society, February 17, 2004
Carmanah Forestry Society, in solidarity with WCWC, mid Island
Group at Cathedral Grove are conducting the first day of our
information picket at the Legislative Buildings in Victoria.
"Our message to the public is that someone is going to
spend some serious time in jail once an injunction is in place,
and the government could have already had them arrested under
mischief charges that would see them getting a fine rather than
six months plus in the "slammer" as the Supreme Court
would be obliged to sentence in definace of an injunction"
stated Syd Haskell of Carmanah Forestry Society in Victoria.
"Our message for the government is that it is time to
give the public an open and meaningful full public process along
with a stop work order so that this issue can be peacefully
resolved, not unlike how they treated IWA forestry workers and
BC Ferry workers."
We expect to start slow and build up as more volunteers come
forth.
