BC Government Sends Regrets & BC Parks Bails from Cathedral Grove Public Meeting

Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, Canada - Cathedral Grove Project manager, Bill Zinovich informed the Western Canada Wilderness Committee, Tuesday, that BC Parks would not attend the public meeting on March 4 at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre to present the Government’s finalized plans for the controversial 150-car, 15 bus/RV parking lot. The Western Canada Wilderness Committee had invited Zinovich to bring the government maps, plans and drawings for a panel discussion on The History and Future of Cathedral Grove.

“It is deplorable how little BC Parks and the present government respect the public and their wishes for Provincial Parks,” remarked Annette Tanner, Mid-Island spokesperson for WCWC. “They are wasting precious tax dollars which should be used to provide proper and open public meetings where solutions could be found. Instead, they arrogantly seek injunctions to put the public in jail.”

Multitudes of letters and signatures from all over Canada and Europe, have been requesting an opportunity for public comment on the final plans for the World Famous Park.

“We were disappointed when Gillian Trumper notified us earlier on that she would be unavailable to attend the meeting, but when Bill Zinovich waited to inform us only days before, that BC Parks would not be attending as well, it was very unfortunate.” Tanner continues. “What better way to clear up mis-information, than through public education. Our apologies to those who were looking forward to the BC Parks plan display, but we will have a great selection of speakers, some maps, drawings, videos and an opportunity to get involved to protect Cathedral Grove,” Tanner adds.

The meeting is set for Thursday, March 4, 7:30 pm at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre. Info: 248-3667, 752-6585
